DID YOU KNOW THAT?

  • Over 3,500 guests got caught up in the Oktoberfest fever last year where more than 28,548 liters of beer, 950 kgs of German sausages (Ring Bratwurst, Cheese Sausage, Cervelat Sausages, Münchner Weisswurst, Münchner Bratwurst and Hungarian sausages), 260 kgs of pork knuckles and 200 kgs of sauerkraut were consumed in a span of two days.

  • Oktoberfest is the largest festival in the world. Six Million is the approximate number of people that attend the Oktoberfest around the world.

75th Oktoberfest: Costume for men

  • The traditional costume for men is wearing of Bavarian-style alpine hat (typically made of felt or suede), Bavarian trachten shirt (usually white or a plain checked pattern in blue, red or green), Lederhosens (short or knee-length trousers made of leather, often worn with suspenders), Wool knee socks, and leather shoes.

  • The traditional costume for women  is wearing of Dirndl (traditional Bavarian dress with an apron), Dirndl blouse (peasant blouse that can either be ultra-conservative or downright daring, depending on your mood), a bodice and an apron (the most integral part of the dirndl - the pattern represents the region where the person is from).

  • The dirndl apron’s knots say a lot about the woman wearing it.
    • When a knot is tied on the woman's left side, this indicates that she is single.
    • When a knot is tied on the right, it means that she is taken, either married or engaged.
    • When a knot is tied in the front this means that she is a virgin.
    • When a knot is tied at the back this shows that the woman is widowed.
