Chihuahua (Makati): Best Texas-Mexican Restaurant in the Metro

Ay, Chihuahua! We finally found the best Tex-Mex food in town – best burritos, best nachos, best chili, best Mexican food experience!

Thanks to MBA graduate, Accountant, DJ and Entrepreneur – Elian “el guapo” Habayeb – for bringing all these spices together and creating a masterpiece in one place.

Nachos

Just look at that bowl – fresh Chihuahua special melted cheese, chipotle salsa, pico de gallo, refried beans, sour cream, a little bit of chili, tortilla chips, and other yummy goodness. This was so good that we literally emptied the bowl in less than 5 minutes! *HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*

Taco Salad

Since we loved the nachos so much, why not try the taco salad too? It’s like nachos with fresh lettuce plus meat of your choice. In our case, we had the grilled chicken breast that was oh so tasty. This was really good, too, but we liked the nachos more. The bigger tortilla chips in the nacho grande made it more fun to scoop the combination of delicious elements in the bowl.

Quesadilla

The quesadilla was phenomenal. We were all raving about this all night. Definitely the group’s favorite. It had different kinds of cheeses (Monterey Jack cheese plus special Chihuahua spicy melted queso), grilled chicken slices, spinach, two big flour tortillas, cilantro, butter and garlic, served with 3 dips (chipotle salsa, pico de gallo and sour cream).

Chihuahua’s special quesadilla’s the king of all quesadillas. When avocado is in season, it is also served with guacamole. I have to come back for it since I haven’t had any good guacamole here in the Philippines yet.

Soft Tacos

Soft tacos made with picadillo (spicy ground beef).  Chihuahua’s authentic Tex-Mex recipe was so good that you’d want to put the picadillo in every dish there is.

Giant Burrito – good for sharing

Burrito Bowl

Burritos are one of the bestsellers at Chihuahua. We tried the regular burrito and burrito in a bowl without the wrap. It was a full-packed meal – black beans, queso, refried beans, Mexican rice, sour cream, chipotle salsa (this is like the staple ingredient in all of Chihuahua’s dishes), pico de gallo, etc.

The meat we had with the wrap is the USDA beef that was very tender and flavorful while we had the carnitas in the burrito bowl – slow cooked braised pork with a little bit of gravy on it.

TIP: Chihuahua’s chipotle sauce are so good because it is made with smoked jalapeƱo peppers so if you are bringing your kids here, make sure to ask for the chipotle sauce on the side since they might find it a little “spicy.”

Anyway, if you need additional “spices,” get as much as you want at the salsa bar. The hot sauce library is also another thing to watch out for. Chihuahua is generous enough not to charge for “extras” on the side.

Top 3 Hot Sauces in Chihuahua

Chihuahua’s home-made hot sauces are pretty good. Charlie Sheen’s Crazy Sauce is the most popular being just medium to a little spicy. Dr. Evil’s is basically the same with Charlie Sheen’s but with a garlicky flavor added to it.

I’m sorry Dr. Evil, but our top pick would be the H Bomb – the hottest of all, made with fresh habaneros mixed with carrots.

Chilis

Chihuahua has a very short menu and I am happy to find Chili in it. It’s very hard to find a really good chili in Manila and this one is a rare find. Just perfect with a slice of bread, a bag of tortilla chips plus beer!

You can also order imported drinks and regular sodas at Chihuahua – Corona, Becks, Dos Equis, Arizona Iced Tea, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Ballast Point Amber Ale, etc.

Margaritas

Aside from being known for their awesome food, Chihuahua is also famous for their margaritas.

It is the perfect balance of 4 things – bitterness of tequila, the sweetness of triple sec, the ‘liminess' of lime juice and saltiness and spiciness of the rimmed glass.” – Elian Habayeb

All these strong flavors cancel each other out and give you perfection – a merger of opposing things that robustly unite as you take it in your mouth.
